Cynthia Manietta
In my artistic endeavors, I aim to highlight humanity's increasingly dominant impact on the natural world. Through my work, I delve into the profound connection between our actions and the environment, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness and change.
Drawing inspiration from the ubiquitous presence of plastics in our daily lives, I create my art by capturing molds of textures found in these everyday plastic pollutants that contaminate our surroundings. These materials, which once served as throwaway items, have now been transformed into sustainable and reusable vessels. By reshaping these patterns, I seek to challenge the perception of disposability and promote a new perspective on how we interact with our environment.
Most of the molds I utilize come from plastics used for packaging meat and other products, as well as plastic containers commonly found in various two-dollar shops. These textures, which are easily discarded by people without much thought, serve as powerful symbols of our collective neglect for the very environment that sustains us.
As Homo sapiens, we often prioritize convenience and temporary solutions, unknowingly disregarding the lasting impact on our life-sustaining ecosystem. My art seeks to provoke contemplation and encourage viewers to re-evaluate their relationship with nature. By showcasing the potential for transformation and reutilization of materials that once contributed to pollution, I aim to inspire mindfulness and responsible action in the face of environmental challenges.
Through my creative expressions, I hope to foster a deeper sense of appreciation for the delicate balance between humanity and the natural world. My aspiration is that viewers will take away a renewed sense of responsibility and commitment to preserving and nurturing our environment for current and future generations. As we recognize our ever-increasing hold over the natural environment, I believe that art can be a powerful catalyst for positive change and a call to action for a sustainable and harmonious coexistence with the planet we call home.
Each piece is individually made so slight variations in size and colour are normal and part of the handmade process.
